Locu
Locu was bought by GoDaddy in 2012. Since then GoDaddy has focused on how to sell the Locu GetFound service to businesses when they create a website on GoDaddy. The product does not feel as though it's been updated as much in the past few years.
  • The least expensive of the three services, Locu pricing starts at $19.99 per month (The $11.99/month pricing since that's only an intro rate).
  • Partner network isn't as large as SinglePlatform's or Yext's although most of the sites that matter are supported
  • Excellent menu building tool that is easier to use than most others
  • The official partner to OpenTable which means that restaurants must use Locu to update their menus

There are several other solutions out there including MozLocal, BrightLocal and Whitespark. However, those are less developed platforms. Also, some of them are just resellers for SinglePlatform.

THINGS TO CONSIDER

While listing management can be beneficial to small businesses, business owners should be aware of the following:
  1. Keeping your menu up to date is a hassle for restaurant owners who have seasonal dishes or prices that change regularly. For the service business like a spa or chiropractor, prices generally change only once or twice a year. Some of the listing management companies make you commit to an annual contract. You'll have to evaluate if that's worthwhile to you.
  2. There are only a handful of websites that actually matter. Yelp, Facebook, Google and YP.com get the lion's share of search traffic. So while technically you can update 50 or more websites at once with Locu, SinglePlatform or Yext, most of those long-tail directories aren't all that relevant anyway. See our list of 50 essential local directories for SEO.
  3. Getting your business info and menu on sites like Yelp is certainly important in garnering interest from potential customers. However, the vast majority of people who see your menu will never call your business or visit your website. Business listings and menus that have syndicated booking are the more effective at driving revenue to your business.
  4. Some of these service actually revert your business information back to its original state when you stop paying. Be sure to get a clear answer about their practices when evaluating listing management solutions

FINAL THOUGHTS

Listing management can be a helpful tool for businesses that have frequently changing business information and menus. Those with more than a handful of locations are likely to save a lot of time keeping their business data in sync across the major websites. However, these solutions can be a bit pricey so you'll need to carefully evaluate your marketing needs and budget.
